چکیده

In the paper we study the infimum convolution inequalites. Such an inequality was first introduced by B. Maurey to give the optimal concentration of measure behaviour for the product exponential measure. We show how IC inequalities are tied to concentration and study the optimal cost functions for an arbitrary probability measure μ. In particular, we show the optimal IC inequality for product log–concave measures and for uniform measures on the lnp balls. Such an optimal inequality implies, for a given measure, in particular the Central Limit Theorem of Klartag and the tail estimates of Paouris.

In this article we collect a series of observations that constrain actions of many groups on compact manifolds. In particular, we show that “generic” finitely generated groups have no smooth volume preserving actions on compact manifolds while also producing many finitely presented, torsion free groups with the same property.

The concept of a judgment as a logical action which introduces new information into a deductive system is examined. This leads to a way of mathematically representing implication which is distinct from the familiar material implication, according to which “If A then B” is considered to be equivalent to “B or not-A”. This leads, in turn, to a resolution of the paradox of the raven.
